Policies & Procedures

The following areas outline the policies and procedures of Little Kids Daycare Centers:

Admission Policy

On the first day your child\ren attend Little Kids Daycare Center, parents are encouraged to stay for a short period of time.  As the staff helps the child with the transition, we suggest that the parents leave with a simple “Good-Bye” and a promise to see the child soon.  We also suggest that you try to pick up your child early for the first few days.  Parents should feel free to telephone during the day to see how their child is doing.

The Day Nurseries Act stipulates that prior to admission, each child must be immunized as recommended by the local Health Department.  Parents are required to provide up-to-date medical certificates as changes in the child’s immunization occur.

The Day Nurseries Act stipulates that a designated third party be named on the admission form.  In the event that a parent cannot be reached or is unable to pick-up the child the third party will be notified.

Arrival and Departure Policy

All programs begin at 9:00 a.m. It is recommended to have your child at the daycare no later than 9:30 a.m.,to avoid interruption of any routines and/or the programming.  We request a telephone call to the daycare be made prior to 9:30 am, otherwise it will be assumed that the child is absent for the day.

We ask that parents do not drop children off at the front door or in the hallway.  The daycare is not responsible for the child until a staff signs that child into our care.
All children will be received in the Junior Classroom of the daycare between 7:00 a.m. and 8:15 a.m..  They will then be taken to their designated classrooms.

In the event that a parent cannot be reached or is unable to pick-up the child, the supervisor will notify the emergency contact listed on the admission form informing them of the need for the child to be picked up.  Proof of identification will be required when the designated person picks up the child.

Please notify the staff if your child is to be picked up by someone other than the assigned adult.  No child will be allowed to leave the daycare with an unauthourized person.  Children will not be released to anyone under the age of 13 years, unless specific arrangements have been made with the supervisor and/or Director of Operations.

Health Policy

The following factors have been considered in developing our center’s health policy:

  • The inability of a child who is too ill to cope with the Day’s program;

  • The need to protect other children from contagious diseases and other ailments

If a child becomes ill during the day, parents will be contacted informing of the child's condition and a request to take the child home.  In the event the child has a fever, is vomiting, or has diarrhea, he/she is considered to be contagious and is not able to attend daycare.

An E.C.E. certified staff member may administer prescribed medicine.  Parents must complete and sign the medication form with the time and dosage required.  Medication must be in the original container with the prescription label bearing the child’s name intact. Staff will not administer any medicine that is expired.

Any accidents and/or injuries are reported to the supervisor as soon as possible, and the incident is then detailed in in an Accident Report form.  It is reviewed and signed by the reporting staff member and supervisor.  Upon pick up, parents are presented with the report and informed of the accident in more detail.  They are asked to review and sign in acknowledgement of the said incident.

In the event of a serious occurrence, the following steps will be taken:

  1. Staff will report the occurrence to the Supervisor or the person in charge immediately.

  2. This person(s) are responsible for conducting a preliminary inquiry which includes:
    (a) contact the parents involved;
    (b) ensure all persons having knowledge of the occurrence remain at the site until excused;
    (c) contact the Owner or Operator of Daycare;
    (d) contact the Program Advisor at the Ministry of Community and Social Services within 24 hours of the incident.

  3. The Supervisor writes and signs the preliminary report sending a copy to the Program Advisor assigned by the Ministry of Community and Social Services.

  4. A follow up is then to be conducted with parents, involved staff, the daycare Owner and with the Program Advisor.
